Trust Account Specialist
The candidate will record and process outgoing trust transactions on a timely basis, verifying details as needed with legal teams to ensure that transactions are accurate, compliant with internal controls and bar association regulations. Constantly review, update and ensure that adequate controls are followed and are in place around the trust process. Prepare payment runs, rush checks and wire transfers as required. Prepare monthly and annual trust reports as required to meet provincial bar association regulations. Review trust account balances systematically and follow up with legal teams to ensure that trust account balances are active and current. Assist in the resolution of bank reconciliation items and month-end account analysis as required. Liaise with bank to open client specific trust accounts as necessary. Respond and provide information/reporting as required from other departments of the firm. Propose opportunities for process improvement and actively look for ways to improve efficiency. Assist with and support special projects such as new software rollouts and improvements. Support legal and administrative personnel with clarifications and training on trust related transactions. Maintain virtual and physical trust filing. Other tasks as required to aid the accounting and finance team in providing a high level of service to the firm and its clients. College or university graduate preferably in a Financial related discipline or the equivalent experience is required. Should have 2+ years experience in a trust accounting role within a law firm or other professional service environment.
