The candidate functions as a generalist, providing services in a variety of subject areas, including employment, contracts, governance, intellectual property, insurance, risk management, benefits, and ethics/conflicts of interest. Participates in and influences the decision-making process with appropriate clients and stakeholders. Identifies and assesses legal risks and opportunities within the legal department and advises accordingly. Independently handles legal matters and projects ranging from basic to complex. Recognizes when to elevate certain matters to the attention of the VP of Legal and Risk. Supervises, manages and evaluates outside counsel as necessary. Educates clients and stakeholders on legal matters, policies and procedures. Establishes and maintains relationships, credibility and trust with clients, stakeholders, team members and other colleagues. Adheres to company values at all times. Performs other tasks as assigned from time to time by the VP of Legal and Risk. BS or BA degree and JD from an accredited law school with a current license to practice in Texas. Should have 2-5 years of experience practicing law. Desire to work in a fast-paced tech startup environment. Desire to learn and expand skill set and areas of expertise. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Highly organized with excellent attention to detail. Strong analytical and computer skills, e.g., excel, ppt, social media, etc.
