Job Overview:
A law firm is seeking associates at all levels to join its Supreme Court & Appellate team in Washington, D.C. Candidates should have experience with drafting appellate briefs, conducting case law research, and assisting in oral argument preparation. The work involves handling cutting-edge legal issues in high-profile cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, as well as federal and state appellate courts. Successful candidates will have opportunities to argue in court. This position is ideal for strong writers with appellate clerkship experience and excellent law school academic credentials.

Location:

  • Washington, D.C.

Duties:

  • Draft appellate briefs and other related legal documents.
  • Conduct case law research to support appellate arguments.
  • Assist in preparing for oral arguments.
  • Work on high-profile cases involving complex legal issues in the U.S. Supreme Court and federal and state appellate courts.
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys in formulating case strategies.
  • Opportunity to argue cases in court for successful candidates.
  • Maintain and organize case files, ensuring compliance with all procedural requirements.

Requirements:

  • 1+ years of experience in appellate litigation (candidates with varying experience levels are encouraged to apply).
  • Strong background in drafting appellate briefs and preparing oral arguments.
  • Experience with case law research and analysis.
  • Law school academic credentials demonstrating strong performance.
  • Appellate clerkship experience is preferred.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the Bar in the relevant jurisdiction (D.C. preferred for Washington, D.C. office).

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the State Bar of the jurisdiction in which the candidate will be practicing.

Skills:

  • Exceptional legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Strong oral communication skills for assisting with oral argument preparation and court appearances.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work effectively under deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
