Manager, Federal Tax

The candidate will manage all Federal tax compliance including the federal returns, extensions, quarterly estimated tax payments and amended returns as necessary. Manage domestic planning projects and other special projects, including the analysis of the federal tax consequences, the management of external advisors and internal functions, and the implementation of the transaction. Partner with the State Tax and International Tax teams on planning and special projects. Establish the documentation and workpaper standards to ensure we are audit ready and to ensure SOX compliance. Maintain a framework for data retrieval in an organized fashion and ensure compliance with data retention requirements for the Tax Department. Maintain the tax compliance software tools. Develop and implement practices and procedures for efficient collection of information and preparation of returns including development of new processes to meet changing tax law requirements. Provide advice on certain tax matters to Treasury, including debt refinancing, bond issuances, and hedges. Manage the relationship with the Accounting and Fixed Asset Department in providing them with technical expertise, interpretation, and application of the tax law regarding Fixed Assets in designing systems, policies, and tax positions. Oversee the development and maintenance of a tax fixed asset guide, the providing of training as necessary, the communication of law changes, and the troubleshooting of issues related to both the correct treatment of assets and system limitations. Provide advice on certain tax matters to HR, including fringe benefits, payroll tax, and executive and Board Director compensation (Section 409A, Section 162(m), Section 105(h), 280G)). Provide technical expertise related to SEC reporting for officer and director compensation. Manage all planning, research and analysis for Federal tax return positions including consolidated returns, NOLs, accounting methods, tax credits, tax shelter disclosures, etc. Provide guidance and expertise to department leadership on consolidated return, accounting methods, and other technical analysis. Manage various tax attributes and other limitations such as stock and asset basis of legal entities, monitor Section 382 limitations (including net unrealized built-in gain calculations), monitor and update earnings and profits calculation (E&P). Lead the management of domestic issues raised in U.S. tax audits. Monitor changes in U.S. tax laws and assist in analyzing the impact to the firm Cabinets. Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting is required. CPA and Master of Taxation or J.D. are preferred. Should have 5+ years of Big 4 experience and/or large public company tax department experience.
