Duties
Conduct title examinations for oil and gas properties in the Appalachia region
Analyze deeds, leases, contracts, and other land-related documents
Draft title opinions, identifying potential defects, liens, and ownership issues
Perform due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, and joint ventures in the energy sector
Provide legal risk assessments and strategic counsel for oil and gas transactions
Draft and negotiate key agreements including purchase/sale contracts, leases, and joint operating agreements
Monitor and interpret applicable federal, state, and local oil and gas regulations
Collaborate with litigation attorneys on dispute resolution when necessary
Work closely with legal team members to ensure thorough and accurate project execution
Meet quarterly billing requirement of 450 hours
Participate in ongoing professional development and continuous learning
Support special projects and firm initiatives as needed
Requirements
Minimum 1 year of experience drafting title opinions for lands in Ohio, West Virginia, or Pennsylvania
Experience with unit-wide division order ownerships, including tract and allocation factors
Strong understanding of legal and regulatory requirements specific to the oil and gas industry
Proven ability to manage multiple legal assignments simultaneously
High level of integrity, discretion, and commitment to ethical practice
Education
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
Certifications
Active license to practice law in a U.S. jurisdiction, with preference for Ohio, West Virginia, or Pennsylvania
Skills
Strong legal research, drafting, and analysis capabilities
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Ability to interpret and manage complex title records and documents
Strong organizational and prioritization skills
