Job Overview:
A Los Angeles-based law firm is seeking a seasoned attorney to handle litigation matters with a specific focus on municipal law, zoning, land use, and code enforcement. The role involves representing public entities in court and administrative proceedings, advising city departments and officials, and shaping strategies that directly affect local governance and community standards.

Duties:

• Represent municipalities in zoning, nuisance abatement, and local ordinance enforcement matters

• Litigate civil cases, including motion practice, trials, and settlement negotiations

• Provide legal guidance to city councils, planning bodies, and departments on constitutional and regulatory land use issues

• Defend or initiate litigation related to code enforcement and land-use decisions

• Research and draft legal memoranda, motions, pleadings, and advisory opinions

• Participate in public meetings and hearings to advise government entities

• Collaborate with city planners and enforcement teams on regulatory compliance

• Track legal developments affecting land use and municipal operations

• Manage cases from intake through resolution, including discovery and trial prep

• Lead client trainings on land use law, zoning procedures, and enforcement practices

Requirements:

• Minimum 4 years of litigation experience, particularly in land use, zoning, or municipal law

• Proven record managing enforcement actions and representing public entities, or challenging them in court

• Ability to navigate California state and administrative court systems

• Experience interacting with city agencies, boards, or commissions

• Strong understanding of constitutional protections related to property rights

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications:

• Active and good standing membership with the California State Bar

Skills:

• Deep knowledge of California Government Code, Planning and Zoning Law

• Expertise in constitutional principles affecting land regulation and property rights

• Superior legal writing and oral advocacy abilities

• Strong public speaking skills, especially in administrative or civic forums

• Ability to distill complex legal information for non-lawyer stakeholders

• Independent case management and strategic litigation thinking
