Duties

• Represent clients in criminal and traffic cases, including misdemeanors and felonies.
• Conduct client intake and consultations to develop defense strategies.
• Appear in district and circuit courts for various legal proceedings.
• Negotiate plea agreements and alternative sentencing options.
• Prepare and argue motions in court.
• Perform legal research on relevant statutes and case law.
• Draft and file legal documents with appropriate courts.
• Review discovery materials to identify legal issues and defenses.

Requirements

• 1+ years of experience as a public defender or Commonwealth Attorney.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.
• VA Bar License.
• Strong legal writing, analysis, and drafting skills.
• Willingness to travel to different courts in Northern Virginia.

Education

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree.

Certifications

• Active Virginia Bar License.

Skills

• Experience in jury trials and/or traffic court preferred.
• Prior judicial clerkship experience is advantageous.
• Spanish speaking skills are a plus.
