Associate Attorney - Insurance Coverage

Job Overview

A law firm seeks an Associate Attorney with at least 5 years of experience in insurance coverage and insurance defense litigation to join their San Francisco, California office. The candidate will handle complex insurance policy analysis, coverage-related disputes, and draft substantive motions in state and federal court.

Duties

• Handle all phases of insurance coverage analysis and related civil litigation in state and federal court.
• Draft coverage opinions, reservation of rights letters, and other coverage-related communications.
• Draft pleadings, dispositive motions, discovery motions, and other substantive law and motion filings.
• Provide strategic legal advice to insurance company clients and collaborate with claims professionals and adjusters.
• Monitor underlying litigation and evaluate exposure under applicable insurance policies.
• Communicate regularly with clients, opposing counsel, experts, and internal litigation teams.
• Attend court hearings and oral arguments, both remotely and in person.

Requirements

• Active bar license in California.
• At least 5 years of experience in insurance coverage and/or insurance defense litigation in either state or federal court.
• Strong law and motion experience, including drafting dispositive motions, discovery motions, and other substantive filings.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Exceptional writing, organizational, and advocacy skills.
• Prior experience in a billable-hour environment preferred.

Education

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Active bar license in California.

• Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and oral advocacy skills.
