A law firm seeks a Senior Trial Counsel in Boston, MA. This role involves leading complex litigation as first-chair trial attorney, developing trial strategies, and managing high-stakes cases independently. The position requires significant client interaction, mentorship of junior attorneys, and leadership in trial and pre-trial proceedings. Some travel is expected for hearings, depositions, trials, and client meetings across various jurisdictions.

Duties

  • Serve as first-chair trial counsel in complex litigation matters in state and federal courts.
  • Draft and oversee original motions, pleadings, and substantive litigation filings.
  • Lead all phases of discovery and manage discovery exchanges among multiple parties.
  • Develop and execute case defenses, litigation strategy, and trial themes.
  • Prepare, examine, and cross-examine witnesses in depositions, hearings, and trials.
  • Argue motions and lead court appearances, hearings, and evidentiary proceedings.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through strategic communication.
  • Draft comprehensive pre-trial reports, trial briefs, and case evaluations.
  • Lead mediations, settlement conferences, and negotiate settlements.
  • Supervise and mentor junior attorneys and litigation support staff.
  • Participate in business development and firm growth initiatives.
  • Demonstrate leadership through professional and community involvement.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active admission to practice law in California; multiple state bar admissions preferred.
  • Minimum of seven years of litigation experience with significant first-chair trial experience.
  • Experience in asbestos, talc, or other toxic tort defense highly preferred.
  • Willingness and ability to travel for trials, hearings, and client meetings.
  • Proven ability to manage complex litigation from inception through resolution.
  • Experience in product liability, toxic torts, environmental law, or similar areas.
  • Strong client service orientation and experience advising on trial strategy.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and experience supervising legal teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with document management systems preferred.
  • Exceptional written and oral advocacy skills with strategic judgment.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active admission to practice law in California; multiple state bar admissions preferred.
