Defense Litigation - Asbestos Associate

Job Overview
A well-established law firm is seeking an experienced associate to join its Mass Torts and Industry-Wide Litigation team with a focus on asbestos defense. The position involves representing asbestos defendants across a variety of industries in both state and federal courts nationwide. The role offers opportunities to work collaboratively with colleagues across multiple offices and develop defense strategies for complex litigation.

Location

• White Plains, NY

Duties

• Regularly take and defend depositions.
• Conduct legal research and collaborate with senior attorneys to develop proactive defense strategies.
• Manage claims through various resolution methods, including dismissal, settlement, motion practice, or trial.
• Draft legal memoranda, pleadings, motions, and other legal documents.
• Represent clients in courtroom appearances.
• Coordinate with co-counsel across multiple jurisdictions.

Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of deposition and courtroom experience in toxic tort matters; preference for experience in asbestos defense.
• Admission to the New York Bar required.
• Admission to the Connecticut, Massachusetts, and/or New Jersey Bar preferred (or ability to waive into NJ).
• Familiarity with Zoom, MS Teams, and other video conferencing platforms for virtual depositions, court conferences, and meetings.
• Willingness to travel for in-person depositions and court conferences, including overnight travel as needed.
• Strong research, writing, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
• High organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
• Demonstrated ability to absorb and process new information rapidly.
• Professional, cooperative, positive, and flexible attitude.
• Military experience is welcome.

Education

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Admission to the New York Bar required.
• Admission to the Connecticut, Massachusetts, and/or New Jersey Bar preferred (or ability to waive into NJ).

Skills

• Expertise in toxic tort litigation, especially asbestos defense.
• Strong deposition and courtroom skills.
• Proficiency with video conferencing tools (Zoom, MS Teams).
• Excellent legal research, writing, and communication abilities.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues in different jurisdictions.
