Job Title: Senior Personal Injury Attorney - Pre-Litigation
Job Overview:
A law firm based in Hampton, VA seeks an experienced personal injury attorney to manage the pre-litigation phase of client matters. The role involves guiding injured clients through the process of obtaining just compensation, from initial case evaluation through resolution, while collaborating with internal support teams. The attorney will serve as a primary point of contact for clients and third parties, with a strong focus on negotiation and strategic case development.
Duties:
Manage personal injury matters during the pre-litigation phase, from intake through settlement
Review case files to identify the severity and viability of claims
Evaluate case value and provide updates within the first 30 days
Conduct regular monthly file reviews to assess case progress
Draft and revise legal documents including demands, motions, pleadings, and memoranda
Ensure timely compliance with all filing deadlines
Maintain timely communication with clients and internal staff (within 48-hour response time)
Engage with third parties including adjusters, expert witnesses, and medical providers
Lead negotiations and settlements in favor of client interests
Review liens and costs before disbursing client funds
Represent clients in mediation and relevant hearings such as interpleaders or wrongful death
Perform additional responsibilities related to pre-litigation or litigation as assigned
Requirements:
Active license to practice law in Virginia
Minimum of 2 years of experience in personal injury law
Strong understanding of tort law, medical terminology, and settlement processes
Proven ability to manage client expectations and sensitive matters with discretion
Ability to analyze complex information and offer strategic solutions
Comfortable working both independently and as part of a structured team
Technologically adept with legal systems and standard office software
Education:
Bachelor’s degree
Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school
Certifications:
Admission to the Virginia State Bar (required)
Skills:

Strong interpersonal and customer service orientation
Attention to detail in reviewing and preparing legal documentation
