A law firm is seeking a Medical Malpractice Defense Attorney to join its Parsippany, New Jersey office. This role offers the opportunity to collaborate on high-stakes matters, work closely with a supportive team, and grow within a dynamic defense practice.
Duties
Handle all aspects of medical‐negligence litigation from inception through resolution, including drafting pleadings, conducting discovery, and arguing motions
Collaborate with expert witnesses, preparing detailed reports and coordinating deposition strategy
Participate in settlement negotiations, mediations, and pre-trial conferences to advance client interests
Manage a diverse caseload, ensuring timely progress and adherence to procedural deadlines
Advise healthcare clients on risk-management strategies and regulatory compliance to mitigate potential exposures
Maintain clear, professional communication with clients, carriers, and co‐counsel throughout the lifecycle of each file
Requirements
1–6 years of litigation experience, with a focus on defending healthcare professionals or institutions in New Jersey
Demonstrated ability to lead courtroom presentations, client meetings, and settlement discussions
Proficiency in drafting complex legal memoranda, motion papers, and settlement agreements
Strong organizational skills, with the capacity to juggle multiple cases and shifting priorities
Exceptional analytical judgment paired with persuasive written and oral advocacy
Education
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
Admission to the New Jersey Bar in good standing
Certifications
Active membership in the New Jersey State Bar Association
Any specialty accreditation or advanced training in civil litigation or professional liability (preferred, but not required)
Skills
Insightful case evaluation and risk-assessment capabilities
Effective negotiation techniques geared toward cost-effective resolutions
Advanced legal research skills, including familiarity with New Jersey court rules and electronic filing systems
