A prominent law firm based in Chicago, IL, is seeking a seasoned Privacy Attorney with 3-7 years of experience to join its forward-thinking data privacy and cybersecurity team. This position centers on proactive privacy counseling across U.S. federal and state frameworks (e.g., CCPA/CPRA, HIPAA, COPPA, TCPA, FTC Act) and international standards such as GDPR. Ideal for professionals who thrive in advising diverse clients on compliance strategy, global data flows, vendor management, and evolving privacy laws.
Advise clients on privacy regulatory frameworks across the U.S. and globally, including GDPR, HIPAA, CCPA/CPRA, and COPPA.
Design and refine compliance programs, data governance policies, and internal risk mitigation protocols.
Support cross-border data transfers and navigate data localization regulations.
Counsel on privacy issues related to emerging technologies, AI systems, digital advertising, and consumer platforms.
Draft and negotiate data processing agreements, vendor terms, and data-sharing contracts.
Guide clients through consumer rights requests, notice and consent structures, and public-facing disclosures.
Conduct privacy diligence for corporate transactions, including M&A activity.
Assist in handling regulatory inquiries and enforcement actions.
Participate in privacy readiness programs and harmonization efforts for multi-jurisdictional compliance.
Collaborate in breach readiness efforts, including incident response planning and simulations.
Provide strategic input on enterprise-level data governance and privacy-risk frameworks.
Minimum of 3 years of direct privacy law experience (up to 7 years considered).
Deep knowledge of U.S. privacy laws and familiarity with global regulations (e.g., GDPR).
Proven client advisory experience with excellent communication skills.
Capacity to work independently and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.
Experience supporting privacy elements in corporate and technology transactions.
Exposure to incident response or broader cybersecurity matters is considered advantageous.
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
Admission to at least one U.S. state bar in good standing.
CIPP/US, CIPT, or other privacy-related certification preferred but not mandatory.
Exceptional legal drafting, negotiation, and communication capabilities.
Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset with business-oriented judgment.
Detail-oriented with a capacity to manage multiple, concurrent projects.
