Job Overview:

A law firm seeks an experienced Litigation Attorney to join its team in Albuquerque, NM, specializing in insurance defense. The ideal candidate will have recent experience in handling cases related to construction defect litigation, casualty, personal injury defense, and other related areas. The role offers the opportunity to work on complex litigation matters, including both pre-trial and trial activities, with a focus on legal research, depositions, and trial preparation. Some fieldwork, court appearances, and occasional travel will be required. Duties:

• Handle insurance defense litigation in areas including construction defect, casualty, personal injury defense, and related fields.
• Draft and file motions, pleadings, discovery requests, and other legal documents.
• Take and defend depositions, including expert witness depositions.
• Assist in trial preparation, including developing trial strategies and preparing case materials.
• Represent clients in court hearings, including pre-trial motions and trials.
• Provide legal counsel to clients and advise on case strategy, risk management, and settlement options.
• Conduct legal research on relevant case law, statutes, and regulations.
• Participate in occasional fieldwork, client meetings, and court appearances.
• Work collaboratively with senior attorneys to develop and execute case strategies.

Requirements:

• Minimum of 3 years of recent litigation experience, with a focus on insurance defense or related fields.
• Strong writing, legal research, and analysis skills.
• Proven experience in taking and defending depositions, including expert depositions.
• Trial preparation experience; trial experience as lead or second chair is a plus.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
• Must be licensed to practice law in New Mexico (Required).
• Must be able to commute to the office and handle occasional travel and fieldwork.
• Licenses in additional states (CO, AZ, NV, CA) are a plus but not required.

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

• Active New Mexico State Bar license (Required).
• Additional state bar licenses (CO, AZ, NV, CA) are beneficial but not required.

Skills:

• Strong legal writing and research capabilities.
• Expertise in insurance defense and related areas of practice, including construction defect and casualty cases.
• Ability to take and defend expert witness depositions.
• Experience with trial preparation, motions, and hearings.
• Excellent communication and client management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple cases and prioritize effectively.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work under deadlines.
• Proficiency in legal research platforms and Microsoft Office Suite.
