Job Overview: A law firm is seeking a Mid-Senior Level Patent Agent with expertise in life sciences patent practice. The ideal candidate will collaborate with colleagues and in-house counsel on IP issues, conduct freedom to operate and IP due diligence searches, prepare and prosecute patent applications, and liaise with clients and patent offices. This role offers opportunities for advancement in a collegial environment and provides training with increasing levels of responsibility.

Job Duties:

• Provide technical expertise in life sciences patent practice
• Work closely with colleagues and in-house counsel on IP-related issues throughout the product lifecycle
• Conduct freedom to operate and/or IP due diligence search and analysis in support of licensing, acquisitions, and research and development
• Prepare and prosecute patent applications to develop strong patent portfolios
• Liaise with clients, the USPTO, and foreign associates regarding patent application processes and strategies
• Collaborate with talented and team-oriented colleagues across practice groups and offices
• Receive training opportunities with growing levels of responsibility

Requirements:

• Ph.D. (or master's or other advanced degree) in biological sciences (e.g., molecular or cell biology, microbiology, immunology, genetics, or biochemistry)
• Superior academic record with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Prior law firm experience with patents in pharmaceutical and life sciences fields
• Current registration and good standing with the USPTO
• 3-8 years of patent experience, including as a patent specialist, patent agent, or patent attorney
• Leadership skills and ability to excel in a team environment
• Interest in developing and implementing relationship-building skills internally and externally
• Experience working with diverse cultures and backgrounds
• Highly motivated self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Excellent law school credentials and references
