Job Overview:
A law firm is seeking a full-time Associate Attorney to join its immigration and criminal defense practice in Grandville, Michigan. The attorney will primarily represent clients in immigration matters, including removal defense and family-based immigration, while also supporting criminal defense matters with immigration-related implications. The position involves client counseling, legal research, courtroom advocacy, and frequent appearances before immigration courts.

Duties:

• Represent clients in immigration removal proceedings before immigration courts
• Prepare and file applications for immigration benefits and supporting documentation
• Draft motions, briefs, memoranda, and legal correspondence
• Conduct legal research on immigration and related legal issues
• Meet with clients to provide legal advice and case updates
• Travel to attend court hearings and other legal proceedings
• Assist with immigration matters arising from criminal defense cases, as appropriate
• Manage cases from intake through resolution while maintaining accurate case files

Requirements:

• Experience or strong interest in immigration law, particularly removal defense and family-based immigration
• Ability to manage a caseload and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
• Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills
• Demonstrated commitment to learning and professional development
• Strong interpersonal and client communication skills
• Moot court, mock trial, law review, journal, volunteer, or other relevant legal experience is preferred
• Spanish fluency is preferred but not required
• Familiarity with Apple products, Microsoft Word, and Adobe is preferred

Education and Certifications:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
• Active Michigan Bar admission
