Fall Internship
The candidate will be taught the mechanics of criminal defense work and experienced APD attorneys serve as mentors. Will be assigned to various branches throughout the county. Responsibilities include assisting with intake interviews in misdemeanor and select felony cases, interviewing witnesses and family for bail review hearings, reviewing and organizing discovery, researching legal issues and preparing memorandums of law. Should be law students in good academic standing who are highly motivated, demonstrate a strong work ethic and can maintain the highest ethical standards of confidentiality with respect to case details and conversations. Candidates must understand the mission and objective of the Alternate Public Defender to provide the highest quality defense to each appointed client and exhibit a strong background in service to their community.
