1L Fellowships: Family and Child Advocacy Law
Intern work alongside internationally-recognized Family and Child Advocacy faculty to explore the many faces of family and child advocacy law, help conduct research and plan events about cutting-edge issues, and/or network with leading attorneys and policymakers. Must be preparing to enter their first year in the J.D. Program at the University of Oregon School of Law. Fellows are selected on the basis of academic merit and demonstrated interest in Family and/or Child Advocacy Law.
Fellow works with a faculty advisor to support the Family and Child Advocacy Law program's research, administration, and event planning with respect to one of the following project areas: Child Advocacy allows an incoming student to work closely with law faculty and Child Advocacy Project (OCAP) fellows, beginning the pursuit of a career in child advocacy. The project engages students in the pursuit of legal change to protect children's interests. The fellow will assist in planning and presenting programs and may help develop legislative proposals and write papers on issues critical to children’s well-being. Family Law brings faculty and student together to work on legislative proposals and important legal issues that affect family life such as the following: escaping from domestic violence, structuring same-sex relationships to ensure financial equity for both partners and protection for parent-child relationships that develop during the relationships; ending unfulfilling marriages and domestic partnerships in ways that are fair to both partners and protect children, and facilitating parenthood through adoption and reproductive technology. The 1L Fellow may also help with OCAP projects.
