Interdisciplinary Energy, Law, and Policy Scholar
The candidate work an interdisciplinary energy law and policy scholar for a position that will be a joint hire between Penn State Law (the tenure home), and the College of Engineering, School of International Affairs, and firm’s Institute for CyberScience (ICS). May be at the assistant, associate, or full professor level. Must have: a J.D., Ph.D., or equivalent degree; a degree (B.S. or higher) in engineering or other quantitative discipline; an interest in using high-performance computing to analyze energy law and policy (such as through big-data work or complex formal modeling); a distinguished academic record and demonstrated potential to produce high-quality scholarship; and a background appropriate for serving as a principal investigator for large-scale, grant-based research. Research agenda should focus on energy law and policy as informed by the analysis of large data (e.g., big data analysis, numerical simulations, and/or high-performance computing). Examples of relevant policy areas include—energy sources (fossil fuels, nuclear energy, alternative energy sources); energy generation and distribution (utility infrastructure, electric grids, battery technology); energy security (physical and cyber security); and efficient uses of energy (smart grids and meters, distributed energy networks, energy-efficient buildings, pollution control techniques).
