This exciting role provides an opportunity to advocate for individuals whose civil rights have been violated. The ideal candidate will bring litigation experience, strong legal research skills, and a commitment to advancing civil rights case law. This position involves participating in a wide range of civil rights cases, from case screening to trial and resolution, while working alongside a collaborative team of attorneys.

Duties:

  • Evaluate potential civil rights cases, conducting comprehensive legal research to assess merits before taking on cases.

  • Engage in all stages of litigation, including drafting and preparing pleadings, managing discovery, and researching, writing, and arguing complex motions.

  • Take and defend depositions and attend court hearings as required.

  • Collaborate closely with clients, including those from diverse backgrounds such as incarcerated individuals.

  • Work with senior attorneys and legal teams to develop case strategies and case law.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school.

  • Active law license in good standing.

  • 2-5 years of litigation experience, with a preference for civil rights and/or constitutional law experience, including trial experience.

  • Proven research and legal writing skills, particularly in drafting complex motions and case law analysis.

  • Experience in depositions, court hearings, and appeals.

  • Strong passion for civil rights and justice advocacy.

  • Ability to independently manage cases while collaborating with a team of legal professionals.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active, unrestricted license to practice law in the jurisdiction.

Skills:

  • Strong legal research and analytical abilities.

  • Excellent writing and drafting skills for motions, briefs, and other legal documents.

  • Experience in litigation, including depositions, hearings, and trial preparation.

  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
