Job Overview:

A law firm based in Sacramento, CA, is seeking a proactive and experienced Immigration Intake Attorney to serve as the primary point of legal contact for prospective clients. This role is integral in shaping the client experience from initial consultation through case evaluation, and it involves the oversight of an intake team to ensure seamless onboarding. The position is well-suited for a motivated associate attorney aiming to deepen their expertise in immigration law while taking on supervisory responsibilities.

Duties:

  • Conduct strategic consultations with prospective immigration clients

  • Assess and recommend legal strategies aligned with client goals

  • Supervise intake paralegals and contract support staff to ensure completeness and accuracy of case documentation

  • Validate client scope agreements and retainer accuracy

  • Deliver detailed case information to the Intake Committee to facilitate informed decision-making

  • Manage the assignment of new client matters within the department

  • Participate in recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding activities for intake personnel

  • Explain complex immigration processes to clients and staff in accessible terms

  • Guide a variety of immigration matters, including removal defense and family-based petitions

  • Occasionally review client submissions and legal packets for completeness and accuracy

  • When needed, assist in preparing clients or witnesses for court proceedings or interviews

  • Conduct legal research to identify client case benefits and applicable remedies

  • Contribute to the drafting and refinement of legal briefs for immigration filings

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on experience in immigration law

  • Demonstrated ability to manage legal cases from intake through initial evaluation

  • Prior exposure to family-based petitions, humanitarian relief, citizenship applications, and removal defense

  • Familiarity with legal case management systems is preferred

  • Ability to identify departmental issues and present structured solutions to leadership

  • Supervisory experience is advantageous

  • Background in sales or client-facing advisory work is a plus

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

  • Licensed and in good standing with a U.S. State Bar 

Certifications:

  • Active Bar membership in any U.S. jurisdiction (California Bar preferred)

Skills:

  • Full professional fluency in English and Spanish (written and spoken)

  • Outstanding interpersonal and client communication capabilities

  • Strong leadership, organizational, and team coordination skills

  • Strategic thinking with a client-first mindset

  • Adaptability in a fast-paced, high-volume legal environment
