Job Overview:
A well-established, multi-state law firm is seeking a Lateral Partner Attorney to join its Workers’ Compensation team. This position is ideal for an experienced practitioner with 5–7 years of workers’ compensation defense experience and an existing portable book of business. Location:

  • Glen Allen, VA

Duties:

  • Evaluate new files to create strategic plans and litigation budgets

  • Identify necessary pleadings and manage delegation to support staff

  • Draft and review discovery responses; manage document production

  • Attend and report on depositions, hearings, and discovery events

  • Negotiate settlements and prepare for trial where necessary

  • Collaborate with paralegals, legal assistants, and fellow attorneys

  • Maintain effective and regular client communication

  • Contribute to firm growth through business development and client retention

Requirements:

  • 5–7 years of workers’ compensation defense experience

  • Existing portable book of business required

  • Licensed to practice law in Virginia and the District of Columbia (required)

  • Maryland Bar admission preferred

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active license to practice law in Virginia and D.C. (required)

  • Maryland Bar admission preferred

Skills:

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities

  • Strategic thinker with attention to detail and efficiency

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and legal case management tools

  • Leadership mindset with the ability to guide support staff and junior attorneys
