Job Overview:
A well-established law firm is seeking a lateral patent attorney registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to support a diverse client base, including start-ups and Fortune 500 companies. The position offers an opportunity to work on both domestic and international patent procurement and prosecution, with a focus on electrical, controls, computer software, or chemical arts. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical knowledge and exceptional communication skills to work effectively with clients, inventors, and examiners.

Duties:
Support clients in patent procurement and prosecution for both domestic and international applications
Draft and file patent applications, responses to office actions, and other related documents
Provide strategic patent advice to clients, including start-ups and large corporations
Communicate with inventors, clients, and patent examiners regarding patentability, claims, and prosecution strategies
Collaborate with the firm’s team to deliver high-quality work on time and within client expectations
Stay up to date on developments in patent law and related technical fields
Requirements:
At least 4 years of experience in domestic and international patent procurement and prosecution
Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
A degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, chemistry, or chemical engineering
If holding a JD, must be licensed with a state bar
Strong ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with clients and team members
Excellent writing and advocacy skills
Ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail
Education:
A degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, chemistry, or chemical engineering
Certifications:
Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
State bar admission (if applicable)
Skills:
Expertise in patent procurement and prosecution in electrical, controls, computer software, or chemical arts
Exceptional legal writing and communication skills
Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities
Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines and manage competing demands
Experience working with inventors, clients, and patent examiners
