Job Title: SIU Litigation Attorney

Job Overview:
A reputable law firm located in Purchase, NY, is seeking a driven and experienced attorney to join its Litigation Practice, focusing on Special Investigations Unit (SIU) matters. The role involves both defense and affirmative litigation, particularly in addressing fraudulent claims within the insurance sector. Ideal candidates will have a keen interest in combating insurance fraud, strong litigation instincts, and a desire to play an impactful role in fraud prevention efforts through innovative legal strategies.

Duties:

• Collaborate with SIU teams to challenge suspicious and potentially fraudulent claims.

• Initiate and manage affirmative actions, including those involving the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO).

• Develop and implement litigation strategies from inception through resolution.

• Conduct detailed legal research and draft legal memoranda, motions, and supporting documentation.

• Engage in all phases of discovery, including interrogatories, depositions, and examinations under oath (EUOs).

• Represent clients at mediations, arbitrations, hearings, and trials in both State and Federal courts.

• Prepare for and participate in appearances such as case management conferences and pre-trial proceedings.

• Draft pre-trial and post-trial submissions.

• Negotiate settlements and prepare settlement-related documentation.

Requirements:

• Minimum of 4 years’ litigation experience with a focus on insurance defense or fraud investigation.

• Familiarity with BI, UM, PIP, Workers’ Compensation, First Party Property, and Transportation law is a plus.

• Demonstrated success in courtroom settings, including depositions and motion practice.

• Strong case management and file handling experience from intake to resolution.

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

• Admission in good standing to practice law in the State of New York. Additional bar admissions are advantageous.

Certifications:

• Active license to practice law in New York State.

Skills:

• Excellent legal research and persuasive writing abilities.

• Skilled in strategic litigation planning and execution.

• Confident in courtroom presence and oral advocacy.

• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a broader litigation team.

• Strong negotiation skills and attention to legal detail.
