Job Overview:
A highly regarded boutique law firm is seeking a Tax Attorney with an LL.M. in Taxation to join its Business Aviation and Tax practice group. This position focuses on advising clients in the acquisition, ownership, and disposition of business aircraft, including structuring transactions to meet both regulatory and tax requirements. The ideal candidate will bring strong tax structuring experience, aviation industry knowledge, and the ability to manage complex transactional matters independently or in collaboration with partners. This role offers remote flexibility and opportunities for business development within a growing and specialized legal practice.
Location:
Washington, D.C.
Duties:
Represent clients in the acquisition, sale, and financing of business jet aircraft
Structure and implement tax-efficient and regulatory-compliant aircraft ownership and operating models
Conduct legal research on federal and state tax laws, including sales and use tax, federal income tax, and excise tax
Analyze and advise on compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations
Draft and negotiate a wide range of documents including purchase agreements, lease agreements, financing documents, and service contracts
Provide strategic guidance on legal and commercial aspects of aircraft transactions
Engage in client meetings, industry conferences, and discussions with federal and state regulators
Coordinate transaction closings and oversee all phases from start to finish
Assist with marketing and business development initiatives
Maintain accurate and timely billing records in accordance with firm practices
Requirements:
Minimum of five years of experience in tax law, including tax structuring and transaction planning
Experience advising clients on federal and state tax compliance, audits, and related regulatory matters
Knowledge of commercial law and experience with contract negotiation
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Prior experience working with aviation industry clients is preferred
Education:
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited U.S. law school
LL.M. in Taxation is required
Certifications:
Active license to practice law in Florida, D.C., or the state where the candidate resides (if remote)
