Job Title: Traditional Labor Law Associate Attorney
Job Overview:
A Sacramento-based law firm is seeking a dedicated Associate Attorney with a strong foundation in traditional labor law and employment counseling. This hybrid role will focus on handling all aspects of labor relations and workplace law compliance for employers, including regulatory guidance, union matters, and policy reviews. Ideal for attorneys who enjoy navigating complex labor issues in both advisory and litigation contexts, this opportunity allows for hands-on experience with collective bargaining, NLRB proceedings, and employment best practices under both federal and California law.
Duties:
Represent employers in matters involving traditional labor law, including:
Unfair labor practice proceedings before the NLRB
Union representation elections and legal guidance during organizing campaigns
Negotiation and review of collective bargaining agreements
Arbitration, grievance, and related administrative hearings
Conduct due diligence reviews for labor/employment concerns in mergers and acquisitions
Provide counsel on California and federal employment statutes and regulatory issues
Offer strategic advice on issues such as wage/hour compliance, disability accommodations, and leave policies
Draft and review employee handbooks, workplace policies, compensation, and incentive plans
Deliver training programs on labor relations, harassment, discrimination, and other workplace topics
Support employers in securing mass picketing injunctions and managing picket-related disputes
Assist with additional labor/employment-related tasks and firm matters as needed
Requirements:
4-6 years of experience practicing law with a focus on litigation, labor, or employment counseling
Prior experience with traditional labor law preferred
Familiarity with federal and California workplace regulations is strongly preferred
California Bar admission required
Proven ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
Availability for business travel as necessary
Education:
Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school
Certifications:
Active and in good standing with the California State Bar
Skills:
Strong analytical, drafting, and legal research skills
Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities
Skilled in managing relationships with clients and external stakeholders
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
Proficiency in bilingual communication (English and Spanish) preferred
