A law firm seeks an Attorney in Houston, Texas, to join its litigation practice group specializing in ad valorem taxes. The role involves managing a personal docket, engaging with clients, conducting legal research, and preparing cases for settlement or trial.

Duties

• Conduct initial file review and evaluate petitions of assigned cases.
• Draft legal documents such as briefs, motions, pleadings, and appeals.
• Investigate case facts to determine causes of action and prepare cases accordingly.
• Resolve cases through settlement or trial/appeal.
• Make appearances before Texas District Courts.
• Participate in marketing and networking activities.

Requirements

• 0-2 years of legal experience at a law firm or governmental agency.
• Litigation and trial experience preferred.
• Legal competency in Texas civil procedure required.

Education

• Graduation from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Licensed to practice law by the State Bar of Texas.
• Member in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.

Skills

• Civil litigation, legal research, and analysis.
• Knowledge of legal principles, practices, and proceedings; state and federal laws, regulations, and rules.
• Ability to manage a caseload.
• Self-motivated with good communication skills.
• Proficiency with MS Office tools and Adobe Acrobat.
• Experience in Prolaw case management software is a plus.
