Job Overview:
A prominent East Coast law firm is seeking a Patent Attorney with a minimum of 4 years of experience in patent prosecution to join its expanding Intellectual Property practice. This role supports a wide range of intellectual property matters, particularly within the life sciences sector, and offers the opportunity to work collaboratively across multiple offices and disciplines. Ideal for candidates with strong technical backgrounds and a passion for biotech, pharmaceuticals, or medical devices.

Location:

• Parsippany, NJ

Duties:

• Evaluate patentability of innovations across a variety of life sciences technologies

• Prepare, draft, and file U.S. patent applications

• Prosecute U.S. patent applications and coordinate international patent prosecution

• Conduct legal and technical research related to patent and IP matters

• Support IP due diligence and strategic patent portfolio management

• Collaborate with attorneys, clients, and cross-functional business teams on IP strategy

• Liaise with internal departments and external counsel on key IP initiatives

Requirements:

• Minimum of 4 years of experience in patent prosecution (law firm or in-house)

• Technical expertise in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or medical devices

• Strong scientific background with ability to interpret and apply complex technical concepts

Education:

• Ph.D. in a relevant life sciences discipline (required)

Certifications:

• Active state bar membership and good standing

• Experience with mechanical or electrical patent prosecution is a plus

Skills:

• In-depth understanding of life sciences-related technologies

• Exceptional legal research and writing skills
