Elevator Oversight Team Specialist
Duties: Conduct field oversight of personnel and vendors performing work on elevators to determine if installation, repairs and alterations are in accordance with code requirements, approved plans and specifications, and the work is performed in a good, workmanlike manner. Ensure that those individuals who are working on and inspecting passenger elevators have the appropriate licenses and follow inspection policies and procedures. Prepare detailed reports outlining the findings of the field oversight which highlight the extent to which activities are being conducted in compliance with applicable regulations and industry best practices, flagging potential gaps or risks for supervision. Respond to and investigate complaints of alleged elevator safety complaints and prepare reports containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations. Inspect, through visual observation, facilities, to determine compliance with applicable laws and codes. Re-inspect passenger elevators that have been identified by enforcing agencies and/or department inspectors as having violation(s) that constitute a hazard to the health, safety, or welfare of the occupants or intended occupants, or the general public to determine if the violations have been abated. Immediately escalate observances of Health and Safety noncompliance or malfeasance to the EOT Administrator. Review reports and inspection activities to determine compliance with rules and policies and to ensure the uniformed application of applicable codes. Collaborate with business units to recommend required process improvements to ensure the safety of residents and employees. Advise and assist the EOT Administrator in developing well-informed and operative strategies to maximize unit and department effectiveness. Perform special project tasks, ad-hoc analyses, and prepare relevant reports and presentations as assigned. Provide oversight assistance to the other units within the Environmental Health and Safety Department. Plan, coordinate and direct a program of inspection. Oversee inspection audits, criminal enforcement, interagency operations, and sweeps. May assist in developing training curricula. Confer with architects, engineers and manufacturers of equipment on interpretation of ordinances and standards. Prepare the budget estimate. Make joint inspections with other inspectors or makes special field inspections when unusual conditions are encountered. Represent the Department at meetings and conferences with representatives of public and private agencies. May operate a motor vehicle in performance of assigned duties.
