Job Overview:
A prominent law firm based in Reston, VA, is seeking an associate to join its Structured Finance group. This opportunity is ideal for candidates with prior experience advising on over-the-counter derivatives, particularly within regulatory frameworks such as Dodd-Frank. The role involves negotiating and drafting derivatives documentation, advising on risk mitigation, and supporting complex financial transactions. This position offers a hybrid schedule and the opportunity to work across a dynamic and collaborative legal team focused on structured finance innovation and compliance.

Duties:

• Draft and negotiate key derivatives documentation, including ISDA Master Agreements, Schedules, Credit Support Annexes, and Confirmations

• Advise clients on compliance with U.S. regulatory protocols such as Dodd-Frank and other applicable ISDA regulations

• Collaborate with internal transactional teams on structured finance deals involving derivatives

• Conduct legal research and assess implications of evolving regulatory frameworks

• Provide strategic guidance on risk exposure and mitigation within financing structures

• Engage in client communications to address deal structuring, execution, and post-execution matters

• Participate in knowledge-sharing initiatives and internal team development

• Maintain high standards of accuracy, timeliness, and responsiveness in client deliverables

• Balance multiple transaction deadlines in a fast-paced legal environment

Requirements:

• 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in structured finance and derivatives

• Prior background working with ISDA documentation and regulatory protocols

• Demonstrated ability to manage complex transactional workflows

• Strong judgment and critical thinking applied in deal structuring and client counseling

• Exposure to an Am Law 100 firm environment or a similarly high-volume legal practice preferred

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

• Admission to practice law in Virginia

Skills:
