Job Overview:
A law firm based in Southfield, MI, is seeking a licensed Virginia attorney for a fully remote position focused on consumer defense and debt resolution. The role centers on delivering practical, affordable legal support to clients involved in debt collection matters. The ideal candidate will have litigation experience and a collaborative approach to resolving financial disputes outside of court. This position allows for flexibility, minimal in-person appearances, and involvement in client resolution programs, offering an opportunity to provide impactful legal services in a high-volume, consumer-focused practice.

Duties:

• Represent clients in debt collection lawsuits brought by original creditors or third-party debt buyers

• Provide limited-scope legal assistance, including reviewing and revising answer drafts prepared by support staff

• Evaluate and manage settlement offers as part of a broader debt resolution strategy

• Complete routine file assessments to ensure ongoing case progress

• Handle litigation tasks typically short of final hearings or trials

• Determine when local appearance coverage is needed and coordinate accordingly

• Maintain regular communication with clients and internal team members

• Utilize digital platforms for case management and document review

Requirements:

• Active and good-standing license to practice law in the Commonwealth of Virginia

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in civil litigation

• Prior exposure to consumer debt collection or defense work is preferred

• Comfortable with remote work technology and software systems

• Strong written communication and case management skills

• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-volume environment

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

• Must hold an active license with the Virginia State Bar

Skills:

• Litigation experience in civil or consumer-related matters

• Familiarity with debt resolution or negotiation strategies
