Job Overview:
A prominent civil defense litigation firm in Seattle is seeking an Associate Attorney (or Of Counsel level, depending on experience) with a strong background in insurance coverage law. Duties:
Handle insurance coverage matters, including policy analysis and drafting coverage opinions
Litigate insurance and extra-contractual (bad faith) claims in state and federal courts
Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda, pleadings, motions, and briefs
Attend hearings, depositions, and court proceedings as necessary
Manage multiple litigation matters simultaneously with attention to deadlines and detail
Collaborate with paralegals and support staff to ensure effective case management
Engage with clients, carriers, and other stakeholders to provide strategic legal counsel
Maintain high standards of ethics and professionalism in all client and court interactions
Requirements:
Minimum of 3 years of substantive insurance coverage experience
Experience handling insurance litigation, including bad faith and coverage disputes
Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced legal setting
Strong organizational and time management skills
Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
Education:
Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school
Certifications:
Active membership in the Washington State Bar Association (WSBA) (required)
Skills:
Superior written and oral advocacy skills
In-depth legal research and analysis
Strategic litigation planning and case development
Collaborative mindset with strong interpersonal communication
Familiarity with court procedures and rules in Washington State
Experience working with legal teams, paralegals, and support staff
Judicial clerkship experience (preferred but not required)
