Job Overview:
A leading law firm is seeking a skilled Associate to join its Privacy & Cybersecurity practice group. This position offers direct client interaction and leadership on U.S.-focused privacy compliance matters. The role includes managing complex regulatory counseling, developing compliance programs, and drafting detailed legal documentation for high-profile clients in sectors such as finance and health/life sciences. Duties:
Advise clients on U.S. data privacy compliance, focusing on regulatory requirements under state privacy laws (e.g., CCPA, WA MHMD)
Conduct compliance gap assessments and lead the development of privacy programs and procedures
Draft privacy policies, incident response plans, data subject rights (DSR) procedures, internal guidance, and related documentation
Provide counsel on data sales, targeted advertising, and cookie/adtech technologies (e.g., TCPA, CAN-SPAM, DAA/NAI/IAB rules)
Assist clients with prioritizing risk areas and implementing practical compliance solutions
Work closely with supervising partners and manage portions of large client engagements
Collaborate with cross-functional legal teams and, on occasion, supervise junior associates or paralegals
Requirements:
4–6 years of practical experience in data privacy counseling (not focused on incident response, M&A diligence, or cybersecurity)
Experience applying and implementing state privacy laws, including CCPA and similar frameworks
Background in adtech/cookie tracking and marketing compliance strongly preferred
Familiarity with financial and health/life sciences sectors, including GLBA, CalFIPA, FCRA, HIPAA, and related regulations
Large law firm experience required (boutique specialists may also be considered)
Ability to work independently on matters or lead segments of larger projects
Comfortable in a team-oriented and collegial environment
Education:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
Certifications (Preferred):
Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP-US, CIPT, CIPM)
Certifications (Required):
Admitted to practice law and in good standing in the jurisdiction of application
Skills:
Strong verbal and written communication skills
