Job Overview:
A nationally recognized law firm is seeking a mid- to senior-level Tax Associate to join its transactional tax team within the Tax & Benefits practice. This position focuses on complex energy sector transactions, with an emphasis on renewable energy tax credit financings and M&A. The role involves advising a variety of energy industry stakeholders including tax equity investors, lenders, utilities, and project developers. Ideal candidates will have a background in transactional tax law, partnership taxation, and energy project financing. The position offers firm-wide collaboration and direct client engagement, and is open across multiple major U.S. office locations.
Location:
Duties:
Advise on federal income tax issues related to renewable energy transactions, including tax equity financing, M&A, and structuring
Represent clients involved in solar, wind, carbon capture, and energy storage projects
Draft and review partnership agreements, tax opinions, and transaction documents
Provide guidance to utilities and unregulated affiliates on tax planning and compliance
Collaborate with cross-practice teams on transactional matters
Conduct tax research and analysis and present findings to clients and internal teams
Participate in business development, thought leadership, and industry conferences
Requirements:
5 to 8 years of experience in transactional tax law
Direct experience in the energy industry, including renewable energy tax credits and project finance
Familiarity with tax equity structuring and partnership taxation
Demonstrated ability to manage complex, deadline-driven projects with multiple stakeholders
Strong client service and interpersonal skills
Education:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school
Certifications:
Active license in good standing in the state of practice
Skills:
Exceptional written and oral communication skills
Strong academic credentials
Proficiency in analyzing federal income tax issues related to partnerships and corporate structures
Experience working with or advising utilities and energy developers
Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment
Experience from a law firm preferred; experience at a large accounting firm may also be considered
