Job Overview

A boutique law firm in New York City is seeking a highly experienced and entrepreneurial Tax Attorney with deep expertise in both international and domestic corporate tax law. This role offers the opportunity to lead and eventually take over the firm’s Tax Department. Ideal candidates will have a proven track record, a high six-figure book of business, and at least 10 years of legal experience advising corporations, family offices, and individuals on complex tax matters. The position combines technical excellence with leadership, client relationship management, and business development.

Duties

• Provide legal counsel on international and domestic tax law and compliance

• Develop and implement strategic tax planning solutions for corporate clients, family offices, and high-net-worth individuals

• Structure business transactions (e.g., mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures) from a tax-efficient perspective

• Handle cross-border tax matters, including transfer pricing, tax treaties, and foreign tax credit optimization

• Represent clients in tax audits, administrative proceedings, and dispute resolution with tax authorities

• Maintain and grow client relationships, delivering high-level service and identifying cross-selling opportunities

• Contribute to business development efforts using an established book of business

• Collaborate with partners and practice groups to expand service offerings

• Mentor junior attorneys and paralegals, providing leadership and support within the team

Requirements

• Minimum 10 years of legal practice in tax law with a focus on both domestic and international matters

• Demonstrated ability to manage complex tax planning and compliance for a diverse client base

• Significant client-facing experience and proven ability to generate new business

• Experience in transactional support and tax dispute resolution

Education

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited U.S. law school

Certifications

• Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. state

• New York Bar admission strongly preferred

Skills

• Deep knowledge of U.S. and international tax law, including IRS regulations and tax treaties

• Exceptional legal research, analysis, and drafting capabilities
