Job Overview

A law firm seeks an Associate Attorney to join their team in Chicago, IL. This role involves strategic leadership and oversight in complex mass tort and products liability litigation, including asbestos matters, across multiple jurisdictions nationwide.

Duties

  • Serve as a member of the National Coordinating Counsel for mass tort and products liability litigation.
  • Develop and maintain national defense strategies and trial themes.
  • Draft and review complex motions and legal memoranda in state and federal courts.
  • Lead and coordinate written discovery strategy and manage discovery exchanges.
  • Analyze case law and statutes to develop pre-trial and trial strategies.
  • Take and defend depositions of witnesses and oversee deposition strategy.
  • Prepare and manage expert witnesses, including retention and testimony strategy.
  • Argue motions and participate in hearings and court appearances.
  • Prepare national case evaluations and risk assessments.
  • Participate in mediations and settlement conferences.
  • Supervise and coordinate work of local counsel and junior attorneys.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, providing strategic guidance.
  • Mentor junior attorneys and contribute to internal training.
  • Participate in business development and client presentations.
  • Meet annual billable hour requirements and comply with firm policies.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active admission to practice law in Illinois; multiple state bar admissions preferred.
  • 3 to 7 years of litigation experience with complex matters.
  • Experience in mass tort and products liability litigation, including asbestos matters.
  • Proven ability to manage multi-jurisdictional litigation.
  • Strong client service orientation and strategic advisory experience.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with document management systems preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and committed to professional development.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active admission to practice law in Illinois.

  • Advanced litigation skills and strong judgment.
  • Ability to manage high-volume, high-exposure matters.
