Job Overview:

A law firm is seeking a Renewable Energy Project Development & Finance Associate to join its Corporate practice. This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge renewable energy projects, including wind, solar, geothermal, hydrogen, and battery storage across the U.S. Candidates will work with leading clients in the clean energy sector, providing hands-on experience from day one. 

Location:

  • Aspen, CO

Duties:

  • Represent clients in the development, finance, and transaction aspects of renewable energy projects.
  • Draft and negotiate power purchase agreements, asset purchase agreements, hedge contracts, equipment supply contracts, construction contracts, and other related documents.
  • Collaborate with developers, investors, corporate buyers, and utilities involved in renewable energy project development, financing, and management.
  • Advise on regulatory, environmental, and financial considerations for renewable energy projects.
  • Provide legal support for mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and other transactions in the renewable energy sector.
  • Work directly with clients from project inception to completion, gaining valuable, hands-on experience.
  • Maintain effective communication and manage client relationships in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements:

  • At least 3 years of law firm experience in project development, finance, mergers & acquisitions, or commercial contracts.
  • Experience in renewable energy or energy law is preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with power purchase agreements, asset or company purchase agreements, construction contracts, and hedge agreements is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team while managing individual responsibilities.
  • A proactive and solution-oriented approach to problem-solving.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in good standing with the relevant state bar.

Certifications:

  • Bar admission in the relevant state(s) (or eligibility for admission via reciprocity).

Skills:

  • Expertise in project development, finance, and energy transactions.
  • Strong contract negotiation and drafting skills.
  • Excellent research and writing capabilities.
  • Ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly and concisely.
  • Demonstrated interest or experience in renewable energy.
  • Effective client management and relationship-building skills.
  • Team-oriented with a strong work ethic.
