Senior Tax Accountant
The candidate will support the department in its day-to-day customer service to the partners including compensation and profit distributions. Reconcile of all partner accounts (i.e. draws, capital, etc.) and for implementation of the partner compensation and capital policies and procedures. Reviews Firm activity in various state, local, and foreign tax jurisdictions to determine tax filing requirements. Prepares and reviews annual audit and tax schedules for external auditor and tax preparer. Reconciles activity in partner accounts monthly and prepares lead sheet for year-end calculations (partner capital, partner draw accounts, including special payment accounts, partner A/R and Firm-paid taxes etc.). Assists with partner payroll (monthly, quarterly and others, as needed), and corresponding journal entries posted to the general ledger. Also prepares draft pro formas for arriving lateral partners and departing partners. Works with department management to ensure partner reporting is timely delivered: profit, projected earnings and capital statements. Tracks and maintains information related to partners’ capital contributions and accounts including; managing capital loan program documentation, capital repayments upon departure and monitoring departure letters for timely repayment of capital holdbacks. Prepares and/or reviews quarterly and extension tax estimates, filings and payments in an accurate and timely manner. Performs annual tax true-ups for individual partners, to include accurate reimbursements/receivables, journal entries for former partners and letters/communications to the former partners, if needed. Acts as primary contact for returned partner annual tax questionnaire. Reviews monthly reconciliation and clearing of foreign exchange gain/loss related to partner payments. Reviews property returns for all jurisdictions as needed. Responsible for global mobility issues and compliance (Hypothetic tax, review of equalizations, tax filings, certificates of coverage, etc.). Reviews all use tax returns for the various jurisdictions as required (monthly, quarterly, annually). First point of contact for auditors with information requests for any tax audits such as use tax and personal property tax audits and responds to notices from federal, state, and local tax jurisdictions. Participates in or leads special projects and performs other duties as assigned. Contributes to the firm’s Service Excellence initiative to consistently improve its image internally and externally. Displays integrity, quality service and a "can do" attitude to internal members/departments of the Firm as well as external clients and vendors via electronic and print correspondence, over the telephone and in-person. Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance is required. Advanced degree may be considered in lieu of some job experience. Should have 4+ years of experience that is directly related to the duties or skills described herein. Knowledge of 3E accounting system is a plus; Microsoft Excel required; database experience is a plus. Public accounting experience is preferred; law firm experience is a plus. Experience with partnership and individual tax compliance and issues including multi-jurisdictional tax filings and analysis, group composite returns, withholding payments, Schedule K-1 reporting, etc. is required. Experience with international tax issues, VAT, expat tax issues is preferred. CPA is required.
