Duties

• Draft, prosecute, and manage patent applications across diverse life sciences technologies.
• Conduct freedom to operate, patentability, and validity analyses and prepare detailed legal opinions.
• Support patent litigation and inter partes review proceedings through claim charting, expert coordination, and deposition preparation.
• Advise clients on IP strategy, portfolio management, and licensing transactions.
• Mentor junior attorneys and collaborate with technical specialists on complex patent matters.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams to align IP strategy with commercial objectives.

Requirements

• 20 years of patent prosecution and counseling experience in the life sciences field.
• Active registration with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate scientific concepts into legal strategy.
• Exceptional writing and oral advocacy capabilities.
• Capacity to manage multiple high-priority matters and meet stringent deadlines.

Education

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school.
• Advanced scientific degree (e.g., Ph.D., M.S.) in a life sciences discipline.

Certifications

• Admission to the North Carolina Bar (or eligibility for reciprocity).
• USPTO registration number.
