Job Title:
Patent Agent (Medical Devices)

Job Overview:
A prominent law firm based in Pittsburgh, PA is looking to expand its intellectual property team with the addition of an experienced Patent Agent. This role involves drafting and prosecuting patent applications, responding to office actions, providing support in preparing opinions, and conducting prior art searches, specifically within the fields of medical devices and bioengineering. A focus on mechanical engineering, artificial intelligence (AI), and computer science will be an added advantage.

Duties:

• Draft and prosecute patent applications in the medical devices and bioengineering fields.
• Respond to office actions and work closely with attorneys to navigate the patent process.
• Assist in the preparation of legal opinions regarding patentability and infringement.
• Conduct thorough prior art searches to support patent applications.
• Collaborate with clients and internal teams to provide strategic IP guidance.

Requirements:

• At least 2 years of experience as a Patent Agent.
• Experience in drafting, prosecuting, and handling patent-related matters.
• Proven ability to assist with legal opinions, patent prosecution, and office actions.
• Knowledge of medical devices, bioengineering, mechanical engineering, or computer science.
• USPTO registration is required.

Education:

• Bachelor or advanced degree in bioengineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, or related field.

Certifications:

• Admission to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Skills:

• Strong understanding of patent law and intellectual property.
• Proficiency in conducting prior art searches.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
