A well-established law firm is seeking a highly qualified Patent Agent to support its Intellectual Property practice. The position centers on patent prosecution and IP strategy within the life sciences sector and involves working closely with patent counsel and attorneys from various legal disciplines. The ideal candidate will have a strong scientific background and significant experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications, particularly in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or medical devices.

Location

Duties

• Evaluate the patentability of innovations in a variety of scientific and technological areas

• Prepare, draft, and file U.S. patent applications

• Prosecute U.S. patent applications and coordinate with international counsel for foreign filings

• Support IP due diligence efforts and strategic patent portfolio management

• Conduct legal and technical research related to intellectual property matters

• Collaborate with attorneys, clients, and business teams on IP strategies

• Act as a liaison for cross-functional initiatives and maintain communication with external counsel

Requirements

• Minimum of 4 years of experience in patent prosecution within a law firm or corporate IP department

• Experience focused on biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or medical device technologies

• Familiarity with global patent processes; international prosecution coordination is a plus

• Ability to manage multiple matters in a deadline-driven environment

Education

• Ph.D. in a life sciences field such as biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or related discipline

Certifications

• Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), or eligibility to sit for the Patent Bar in the near future

Skills

• Strong technical knowledge in relevant life sciences disciplines

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Effective team collaborator with strong organizational and analytical abilities

• Experience with mechanical or electrical technologies is a plus
