Job Overview:
A respected law firm in Chicago, IL, is seeking a skilled Associate Attorney with a strong background in pharmaceutical patent disputes to support its growing Intellectual Property practice. This position focuses on litigation involving the Hatch-Waxman Act and related regulatory frameworks. The ideal candidate will bring prior law firm experience, technical knowledge in life sciences, and a track record of excellence in advocacy and written work. The role offers exposure to high-impact IP cases and the opportunity to collaborate with seasoned trial attorneys across the full IP litigation spectrum.

Duties:

• Represent clients in patent litigation matters governed by the Hatch-Waxman Act

• Draft pleadings, briefs, and motions across various stages of litigation

• Conduct fact and expert discovery, including depositions and document review

• Engage with clients, co-counsel, and opposing counsel on case strategy

• Support regulatory and technical analysis related to pharmaceutical products

• Participate in trial preparation and appellate strategy as needed

• Maintain thorough documentation and manage timelines across multiple matters

Requirements:

• Minimum 2 years of experience in Hatch-Waxman patent litigation

• Proficiency in handling fact discovery, expert reports, and motion practice

• Demonstrated excellence in legal research, writing, and verbal communication

• Capable of managing simultaneous matters with precision and professionalism

• Admission to the State Bar in good standing

Education:

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

• Active bar license in at least one U.S. jurisdiction, preferably Illinois

Skills:

• Strong analytical and technical writing ability

• Background in chemistry, biology, or a related scientific field preferred

• Detail-oriented with excellent time management and collaborative skills

• Comfortable working with cross-functional teams on complex IP matters
