Job Title: Patent Agent (Semiconductor Experience)
Job Overview:
A prominent law firm based in Austin, TX, is seeking a seasoned Patent Agent with deep expertise in semiconductor-related technologies. This professional will join the Intellectual Property practice group and focus on the preparation and prosecution of patent applications. The role emphasizes client engagement, technical analysis, and strategic input in patent drafting. Ideal candidates will bring a solid foundation in electrical, materials, or chemical engineering and demonstrate hands-on experience with patent portfolios in the semiconductor domain.
Duties:
Draft patent applications, integrating scientific and engineering principles
Prepare written responses to U.S. and international patent office communications
Engage with inventors and technical personnel to understand innovations
Translate technical concepts into legal documentation
Collaborate with attorneys to support patent strategy and prosecution
Analyze emerging technologies and provide internal briefings
Communicate with patent office officials, clients, and internal teams
Review and summarize technical documentation relevant to inventions
Guide and oversee support personnel on IP tasks when necessary
Remain current on advancements in semiconductor technologies
Execute other related duties as needed to support the IP team
Requirements:
Minimum 3 years of experience in patent preparation and prosecution, specifically in semiconductor technology
Demonstrated ability to interpret technical information and convert it into high-quality patent documentation
Strong organizational skills with a consistent ability to meet deadlines under pressure
Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
Proven capacity to work independently and manage sensitive data with discretion
Familiarity with U.S. and international patent filing procedures
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or a closely related scientific field
Certifications:
Registration to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office is preferred
Skills:
In-depth knowledge of semiconductor devices, design, and processing
Competence in legal and technical research and analysis
Proficiency in drafting technical content for legal applications
Strong interpersonal and client-facing skills
Technological fluency and the ability to adapt to evolving software tools
Project management and task prioritization under time-sensitive conditions
Experience with hybrid work environments and remote collaboration tools
Job Location:
Austin, TX (Hybrid - minimum of 3 days onsite weekly; up to 2 days remote)
Periodic travel may be required based on client needs
