A law firm is seeking a Patent Agent with a background in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering to support its Intellectual Property practice in Houston, Texas. This role involves assisting with patent drafting, prosecution, and intellectual property portfolio management. The position provides an opportunity to work within a collaborative IP team advising clients on patent strategy, patentability, and related intellectual property matters.

Duties

• Draft and prosecute patent applications across a variety of technology areas
• Prepare responses to patent office actions
• Conduct and analyze patent searches and evaluate patentability and prior art
• Assess issues related to non-infringement and patent validity
• Support intellectual property due diligence activities
• Provide client counseling on patent strategy and intellectual property portfolio management
• Assist with licensing matters related to intellectual property assets
• Collaborate with attorneys and technical professionals on patent prosecution and strategy

Requirements

• At least 3 years of experience working in patent prosecution or intellectual property matters
• Prior experience working within an intellectual property law practice is preferred
• Strong academic record and demonstrated professional achievement
• Ability to work effectively within a collaborative legal and technical team environment

Education and Certifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering
• Registration to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office

Skills

• Strong patent drafting and prosecution capabilities
• Legal research and analytical skills related to intellectual property matters
• Excellent technical and legal writing abilities
