Junior Associate General Counsel

Duties: Provide legal guidance, training, and representation to the various University components. Perform legal and factual research pertaining to various issues, and draft memoranda regarding same. Respond to requests for access to University records. Review and revise University policies and procedures. Work in numerous areas of law, including employment law, public records act requests, student affairs, FERPA, Title IX, Title VI, ADA, FHA, etc., all within the context of University operations. Work independently and with senior attorneys and outside counsel to: Advise university administrators; conduct research and prepare legal documents including memorandum opinions, legal correspondence, contract documents and other agreements; review contracts and other documents for legal issues; assist administrators with policy formulation, drafting, and review; negotiate with other parties on behalf of the university in non-litigation settings; provide training in legal, policy, and procedural issues related to the university’s work; represent General Counsel at meetings, work with administrative staff; maintain legal resources for office use; protect the confidentiality of information and activities. Work independently and with senior attorneys and outside counsel to: Represent the University in legal matters; prepare memoranda and analyze factual and legal issues in litigation context; conduct legal research and give legal and policy advice related to matters of University representation; assist with document preservation and production; respond to subpoenas, discovery requests and public records requests. Work with support staff to help meet the needs of the office and the university; maintain research skills; other duties as assigned.
