EL Program Assistant and Parent University Assistant Manager
Job Description: Parent University
Support registration process, confirmation letters and track daily attendance
Attend all Parent University classes or workshops to assess and report on class effectiveness to PU manager, as needed
Gather all logistical needs from participants, instructors and community partners and provide support in addressing the needs.
Assist in the development of Parent University sessions focused on ensuring school success for EL students
Create evaluation tools and follow up on the correlation between family participation and student growth
Prepare Parent University meeting materials, take notes and report as needed in a timely manner.
Provide help in preparing maintaining and updating program materials (events, fliers, handouts, brochures, website, etc)
Help identify new partner organizations based on parents’ needs
Help identify new funding opportunities locally and nationally and provide support in submitting applications.
Work with Parent University Manager to help Parent University participants gain access to Early education centers and childcare opportunities for their non school aged children.
Accept constructive feedback from the team and use the information to enhance/improve one’s work.
Maintain a positive attitude and working relationship with families and community partners.
Seek and ask for help if needed.
Job Description: EL Program Assistant
Support WIDA Testing through communication and coordination with the Director of EL Programs and EL teachers.
Work with EL teachers to communicate teachers’ needs with annual ordering of instructional materials and subscriptions with Curriculum Department
Organize data entry of Liaison Ticket System to communicate with teachers, principals, and Multilingual Liaisons about student supports and updates.
Understand and support the implementation of Ellevation Strategies and communicate with BSD staff about accessing this platform to support English Learners in the Burlington School District.
Support summer programming through coordinating with partner organizations, BSD Staff, multilingual liaisons and students.
Research development concerning multilingual school responses during COVID 19 pandemic, Newcomer Academy programs, parent support programs for multilingual families, and collecting research to share with EL teachers from other communities across the US about developing models of EL student support.
Research training and professional development opportunities for EL teachers and mainstream teachers to learn about other programs across the US, co-teaching methodologies, and supporting new arrivals.
Support compliance with ESSA, Title III and other federal and state mandates through data gathering, reporting, and research into new requirements
Maintain general organizational support for EL programming, including but not limited to Parent University, summer programming, WIDA testing, Ellevation, training, meetings, and student support.
Support Multilingual Liaisons with coordination through partner organizations to provide opportunities for youth and support for families with the Director of EL Programs and Multilingual Liaison Coordinator.
Support Multilingual Liaison Coordinator and Director of EL Programs with community outreach.
Work with outside organizations to address any gaps in service and work together to provide opportunities for families and youth in EL programming.
Job Requirements:
Licensed or eligible for Vermont Educators License.
College degree in social services, humanities, or public administration.
Experience working with grants and understanding compliance and regulations.
Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Required Qualifications:
Knowledge of the Burlington communities and local organizations.
Understanding of Cultural Competency
Ability to develop new organizational tools to better support EL programming.
Knowledge of best practices regarding frameworks of student and family support.
Ability to research, develop, and build professional development opportunities.
Preferred Attributes:
Training and experience with English Language Learners.
Familiarity with Ellevation and other data systems and performance measures to support grant funding.
Experience in a professional/teaching learning community or similar learning community.
Ongoing educational training.
Knowledge and experience with Burlington families and youth
