Job Overview:
A Colorado Springs, CO law firm is seeking a dedicated Criminal Defense Attorney to represent clients in El Paso County and surrounding areas. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to client advocacy, exceptional analytical skills, and extensive experience in criminal trial proceedings.

Duties:

  • Represent clients in criminal defense matters, including but not limited to arraignments, bail hearings, plea negotiations, trials, and appeals.
  • Conduct comprehensive case research to assess legal issues, identify strengths and weaknesses, and develop effective defense strategies.
  • Engage in plea negotiations with prosecutors to secure favorable client outcomes, balancing client interests with legal considerations.
  • Prepare for trials by gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, drafting legal motions, and conducting pre-trial investigations.
  • Draft legal documents, including pleadings, motions, briefs, and other court filings, ensuring compliance with procedural and evidentiary rules.
  • Stay abreast of changes in criminal law, court rulings, and legal precedents to inform defense strategies and provide informed counsel to clients.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • License to practice law in the state of Colorado.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in criminal trial practice, preferably in Colorado.
  • Strong courtroom presence and persuasive oral advocacy skills.
  • Excellent written communication skills with proficiency in legal drafting.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced legal environment.
  • Demonstrated passion for criminal defense and a commitment to upholding clients' constitutional rights.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • License to practice law in the state of Colorado.

Skills:

  • Analytical skills: Ability to assess complex legal issues, evaluate evidence, and develop strategic defense plans.
  • Communication skills: Effective verbal and written communication skills to articulate legal arguments, negotiate with opposing counsel, and advocate for clients.
  • Courtroom skills: Confidence and poise in courtroom proceedings, including witness examination, oral arguments, and trial advocacy.
  • Legal research: Proficiency in conducting thorough legal research using online databases, case law, statutes, and regulations.
  • Trial preparation: Experience in preparing for criminal trials, including evidence gathering, witness preparation, and trial strategy development.
