The Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the State University of New York College at Oneonta invites applications for a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor of Environmental Geology beginning Fall 2022. Environmental geologists apply geological, geochemical, and geophysical techniques to develop sustainable relationships between the earth and its inhabitants. The appointment begins Fall 2022 and is part of a cohort of eight new faculty who have a strong interest in one or more aspects of Sustainability, as defined in the UN initiative around the Sustainable Development Goals. The eight-member Department is multi-disciplinary with undergraduate programs in earth science, earth science education, geology, and meteorology. The geology program is a registered licensure-qualifying professional geologist program in New York. We emphasize student-centered learning with a strong history of excellence in teaching, faculty-student mentoring, conducting/supervising research projects that involve undergraduates, and continued contact with alumni. Job Description:
Duties include but not limited to
: teaching undergraduate courses in introductory geology; large lecture introductory earth science; environmental geochemistry or geophysics, environmental geology; and teaching other courses to meet department needs; advising and mentoring undergraduate students; professional development; and service on college/departmental committees.
Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
PhD with a strong background in environmental geology (ABD considered; completion required by date of appointment) and willingness to conduct research with undergraduate students.
Preferred:
additional expertise in one or more fields including: environmental geochemistry, environmental geophysics, environmental soil scientist, engineering geology; field-oriented approach to teaching and research; data analytical skills in R or Python; experience in teaching, mentoring, research, or service with diverse and/or multicultural populations.
