Patent Agent or Engineer

Profile

A law firm is seeking a Patent Agent or Engineer for their Salt Lake City office. The Patent Agent or Engineer will be responsible for patent drafting and prosecution, particularly in the fields of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Machine Learning, or Robotics. Experience in the AI field, including machine learning, generative models, and data and image analytics, is preferred. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential for collaborating with clients, attorneys, and staff.

Duties:

• Draft and prosecute patent applications in various technical fields, with a focus on Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Machine Learning, or Robotics
• Conduct patent analysis and opinions of counsel
• Participate in inter partes reviews (IPRs) as needed
• Manage patent portfolios and provide strategic guidance on portfolio management
• Collaborate with clients, attorneys, and staff on patent matters
• Maintain confidentiality and discretion when handling sensitive information

Requirements:

• Bachelor's or higher degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Machine Learning, or Robotics
• 2+ years of patent drafting and prosecution experience at a firm or in-house
• Admission to the USPTO (preferred)
• Experience with portfolio management (required)
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with diverse groups
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to manage confidential information with tact and discretion

Education:

Bachelor's or higher degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Machine Learning, or Robotics

Certifications:

Admission to the USPTO (preferred)

Skills:

• Patent drafting and prosecution
• Experience with AI technologies, including machine learning and data analytics
• Knowledge of blockchain, distributed ledgers, video codecs, and cloud platforms (a plus)
• Interpersonal skills
