Job Overview

A law firm seeks an experienced Immigration Attorney in Washington, DC, with a strong background in Mandamus actions and federal litigation. The attorney will represent clients facing unreasonable delays in immigration applications or petitions by USCIS or other government agencies. This role requires excellent research, writing, and advocacy skills, along with the ability to manage a high-volume caseload in a fast-paced environment.

Duties

  • Explain immigration concepts and present strategic solutions.
  • Handle federal court litigation, focusing on Writs of Mandamus and APA lawsuits.
  • Represent individuals in removal proceedings at Immigration Court and Board of Immigration Appeals.
  • Manage a workload of cases and conduct intake with detained individuals.
  • Prepare diverse immigration applications, including removal defense and family-based petitions.
  • Review and adjust immigration applications/packets as necessary.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement and community organizations on immigration law changes.
  • Conduct strategic immigration consultations with potential clients.
  • Develop strategies and prepare clients/witnesses for court/USCIS testimony.
  • Prepare and submit legal briefs for various immigration cases.

Requirements

  • At least 3-5 years of experience in Immigration Law.
  • Team player open to collaboration and strategizing with associates.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, but not required.
  • 2+ years of experience in immigration law, with at least 1 year in Mandamus and APA litigation preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to manage a caseload.
  • Experience with Family-Based Petitions, Humanitarian, EOIR, Detained, Citizenship, and other USCIS applications.
  • Experience with Case Management Software is preferred.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Licensed to practice law in the United States.

  • Ability to manage a high-volume caseload in a fast-paced environment.
